Outside of My Scrubs: Tips for Dressing Up a Dressed Down Look

Sooooo…it’s fall, but like, not really. Here in the south, still feels like summer weather.

Now-a-days, social media makes it hard to just….be. Hell I don’t want to dress up just to go to the grocery store for fear of running into a much-appreciated follower, but the Virgo in me wont’t let me just look any ole kinda way. Especially during the fall and winter months; those are my top tier “lazy look” seasons.

I strive to be at a comfort level of 10 at all times, while still aiming for some sort of personal style and perceived effort. So, these tips below have always been my go-to for styling a “dress-down” kinda day where comfort is of prime importance.

  1. Add a pop of color to an all monochrome outfit.

This is probably one of the easiest things to do. We all have that one go-to all black/white/grey track suit or sweat suit we love to wear. I’ve got track and sweat suits galore, but this SKIMS set will always be a fave. So comfy! Try pairing your comfy staple set with a pop of color piece, like a purse, lip color, or a trench coat like this one from Zara.

2. Pair a work out set with some denim and some sunnies.

If you’ve seen me out an about in real life, you’ve seen me in this fit. Like, I actually wear some variation of this fit EVERY DAY when I’m not in the hospital. Throwing on a cute work out set like this one from 30 and Gold (black owned!) with a denim jacket and some shades is effortless, (literally) and I can hit the gym at any time as my schedule allows rather than running home to change. Pairing it with a clutch and some tennies, along with the fact that I can actually work out in it, makes it that much more stylish and convertible.

3. Add a furry sandal.

Now this is going to be hard for my peeps up north to incorporate, but LIIISTENNN: the things a furry sandal can do for you are endless. I can literally wear ANYTHING (leggings, sweats, oversized-wrinkled tee), and a furry sandal will always look like I’m trying, and I’ll always collect the compliments. Luckily for me, I live in the south, so I literally wear these all year round. I got these sandals from Simmi London, a less than $20 purchase that I use daily! Talk about a steal.
